Jaime's Journey

logo

I have chosen to share my Eastern Kings, PEI adventures. Excerpts are from my log are here. My time elsewhere in Canada pales. Eastern Kings is where I am happiest. The land, the sea and the sky is a mystical but not mythical place. PEI travel marketing is anchored on a mythical character. The scenic beauty is quite real. It reaches out to my camera and my mind. The stories are absolutely fabulous. They are much better than fiction. Climate change is irrevocably altering PEI. I meet residents who are unaware of what is here. Thank you everyone who accept me. Once I make arrangements, I hope this will be home. ~ Jaime

Me mum named me Jaime. I am Irish. Was in the midst of studies at a uni in England. Also had a stressful job that I packed in. Only thing I ever quit. Absolutely terrified someone was going to be hurt! Terribly messed up. Knew I needed travel time.

Was looking for a new experience. Had a drink with two Aussies after a Spurs match. Was passed a card for a Canadian web site. This page in this site: Eastern Kings Meeting Place grabbed me. Had a new camera. I could make a Photo Of The Day. Came to Canada and met Waldron Leard. Turned out we had loads in common, more than I expected. Did a few things here, then left for a few weeks. Circumstances found me back to stay in PEI.

Wasn't really a holiday at first. Had worries, fears, business to finish. Had to change my thoughts. Had to get used to a foreign country. Money mix-up the first mistake. No public transportation. Treacherous roads were to me with a hire car. Wish I had my old Mini. Canadian policing methods much different from the UK. Cold ale made a tippy tummy. No live football. Interesting people. A different attitude here. Was told by a government staffer my host was an eccentric. Ha Ha! He wasn't. Misinterpretations happen. All mine really. Have a thin skin for stupidity. Hockey did not appeal. Curling was interesting. Ice storms were ghastly. Still confused and messed up. Canadians call it burnt out. Slowly coming back.

My first photo of the day :). Someone told Waldron about the ice-cake. Drove to East Point to see it. Technically not an iceberg. What I saw was a lovely Hereford being random, chewing her cud :).

Was planning to be in Switzerland and Italy this week. Putting Europe, Chile and Argentina to the back of my mind. Having a good time with my camera. PEI was comfortable. Really thrilling to have my capture published. Waldron encouraged me to create another photo. Allowed to take two!

Found the black ducks after walking though a pasture. Breathtaking. Not park ducks. They were wild ducks. Ducks do not sit and pose (:. They didn't like me. Needed patience. Changed the lenses several times. Took many to Waldron. Quite nervous. His complements made me feel warm inside. Found out about this contest. Have entered a few. No restrictions in Eastern Kings. Talents are appreciated. Felt wanted.

The day I fell in lust with PEI. Basin Head Third Photo of the Day. Passed another capture to Souris Wildlife Federation for a special fund raiser. Actually was chosen for their Calendar ! Afternoon was calm and magical. Found solitude. Complete peace. Complete silence. Beauty. Looked for one adjective for these captures. Don't think it exists. Waldron was with me. Sat on a bench and was still. Think he was caught up in the atmosphere too.

Miss my kitties. Really do. Hope they miss me. Friendly ones pose in PEI. Maniac in Mount Hope talked to me. Pretty friendly. Was telling me about her kittens on the way. Today In The Life of Eastern Kings loves kitties. Lucky me!

Took my journey across Canada. Black clouds over my head everywhere. Nearly ended forever in Saskatchewan. Frightening highways. Came back to PEI. Boss was sick. Filled in. Home the daffies are out. None here. Lovely fishing port Annandale is. Love old farm thingys. Millions of stories in Souris West. Keep looking for the masted ships sailing down the inlet :). Where are the spirits? Speak to me!

Missing flowers. Spring is later here. Seeing the snowdrops was a relief. Looking for renewal and change. New growth is lovely. Blue Jays are everywhere. Bigger birds here. American Crows are the size of Ravens. Crows are the bosses. Saw them running a Bald Eagle off. Crows are in noisy flocks. Considered a noisy nuisance in Charlottetown. Part of the eco-system. They have their place. Practicing with the camera with Blue Jays. Prettier. Smaller. Busier too. Curious and noisy. Curiosity allows time to narrow the capture and focus. Now looking for the rare birds.Blue Jay

Spent hours at Campbell's Cove today. Ice Day. Nothing of Titanic proportions. Cakes really. Flushed up on shore. Walked the shore. Receding tide. Fascinating formations for my camera. Followed a tiny watershed to its source. Surprised with the beauty of the spring. It bubbled and babbled. Too immersed. Had my tea with me. Forgot it. Was lost in photography. Healing commenced on this shore. The quest continues.

Back to Basin Head . Mists were swirling. Dunes appeared as if the moors. Walked to the south lake. Really another inlet. Loved it all. Submitted photo of the day too soon. Left Souris on a different roadway. Found thousands of Canadian Geese in a field. Two ducks too. More geese than crows on the day. Convinced to live in PEI. Fear of mists and the fog gone. Crash in Burnley is a distant memory.

Chose to return to PEI for another holiday. My dream was to walk on Basin Head Beach on Christmas Day. Caught this shot while touring with a realtor :).

Dream was achieved. Christmas morning! Was raining. Quite windy. Walked a dog named Summer and never felt so alive. Felt as always do, that is right with the world! Most beautiful place in the world to me. Felt so fully alive. Out of over a hundred taken, my photo of the day included the berries, a lovely Christmas red. The rest, I shall cherish forever.

Off bird watching on Boxing Day. Traveled across some interesting motorways. Saw this barn in the mirror. Another photo of the day! .

While visiting a friend, it was quite cold. Beautiful patterns formed, courtesy of the frost on a window. Made many pictures before I touched the "leaves". The heat from my hand ruined mother nature's art work
