I met Waldron Leard in 1989 following a football (soccer) match. He coached a skilled Souris side. Later I met Waldron through another common interest. From the beginning he encouraged my photography. Waldron is not an instructor, rather he is an observer who shares. I live away and I travel the world. P.E.I. will forever be home. My life is my work and my kids. The photography on his site keeps me on track. Today in the Life's pool collect an array of images that allows my inner being to feel I am home. When home, I have contributed to the daily capture. It is flattering to be asked to showcase some of my Eastern Kings work. These are captures that have a special meaning for me.

These captures are from a three month window of my life. 2005 was a miserable year. With too much on my mind, I had a photographer's equivalent of writer's block. In frustration, I drove to Kingsboro, found Waldron and vented for hours. Waldron told me I needed a walk into a sunset that lead to a new day. He was unaware he was modelling. This is one of a series I grabbed. He made me walk across to Basin Head. Every step of the way the scene challenged me. His storytelling ability allowed my skills to regenerate. I returned to the area for the next few months. The captures are not my best work, but the area gave me the renewal I required.

The capture of the Lily Pond was where I lost my way. I fell in and my favorite camera was toast. My concentration was shot.

The next evening we walked the same walk. I found a different sky, different colours. Walking into the sunset was the right idea. My eyes gravitated to the brightest colours. The advice that night was to ignore the dark, to leave the blacks alone. Half way across I was instructed to search for known shapes in the clouds. We sat on driftwood and the storyteller took me beyond the shapes into the mystical.

Night 3 was the same walk. The colours had changed. It was suggested to avoid the primary colours and search for the hues. With the cloud motion the colours advanced and receded, as if they too were tidal.

For the anyone's eye, Basin Head is not a mere treasure, but a gift from planet Earth. My kids enjoy the attraction of swimming in the sea, or diving off the pedestrian bridge. Basin Head is much more. For an artist or a photographer, there are a thousand choices daily. It is on my list of must dos when I am home.

The beaches Bothwell and Basin Head, link together uninterrupted. The grasses stitch together to hold the sand in a set of dunes. I found myself stitched together so regenerated, I went back to work.

In October I had to leave a shoot. I had severe headaches, difficulties in my personal life and could not concentrate. Once again I found myself in eastern P.E.I. Elmira's railway station was called the end of the line. For me, it was the platform where I ventured into another renewal. Each day I wandered through the back roads searching for the new and unusual.

In the midst of my ramblings I gained a "disciple", a teen from California. She was clever and I was forced to revisit the classes provided by my instructors. I caught on to her intelligence the "day of the round bales". Discovering this should not be a solitary pursuit, I have not shot alone since.

My young friend saw the colourful clothesline in Souris. The property owner was known. She nor her neighbors were at home. I was struck by the colours and the environmental correctness exhibited.

The remaining photos do not require typed descriptions.

Prince Edward Island's eastern region is an open and a safe sanctuary for all. It is presented each day on Today In The Life of Eastern Kings. I found my way in the area's beauty. You can too! 2006 was an exciting year. Prince Edward Island, Canada is easily accessible by air, ferry and highway. The captures I have displayed were taken within the area that Souris Regional High School serves. This district is in the far east. It is worth the drive. Your cameras will find a mix of farm land, forest and seascapes. Wildlife, while some of them shy, abounds. Historic structures and stories are everywhere. Some will surprise you. Being an island, you will find the culture is unique.

Weather conditions are changeable. Dress for the conditions but do not be discouraged by the foul variety. The mists will make mystical memories. Prince Edward Island has four seasons. Each is spectacular and unique in its own right. Do not limit your explorations to July and August. Make the effort to visit Basin Head. Travel with a partner. If you are alone, find Waldron Leard in Kingsboro. If he is available to accompany you, you will have a colourful history lesson. He will happy to direct you to any special interets you may have.
