Cyn's Signs of the Times

logo

Cynthia Ann Waysmith was born in California. Ill with an inherited and debilitating disease, she passed to be with God in Tennessee. Cyn showed a curiosity for cameras on her fourth birthday. She displayed an instinct to make a great photo. Cyn fell in love with the Prince Edward Island, when she was five. She was happiest there. It was infectious. Seeing PEI through her eyes, was a delight to her family and godmother. Cyn was aware her life would be brief. She experienced more in 17.5 years than most of us would in a lifetime. Cyn lived a full and happy life. Thank you to her "best friend" Waldron for allowing her to participate in this site. It meant the world to her. Prior to her passing, I was urged to preserve and read her diaries. In her words, we present her life in Canada.

July 25, 2005 ~ Oooh I love this camera. We flew in last night. SFO to O'Hare to Trudeau to Stanfield to PEI airport with no surname. We will be here for more than a month. Already I wish we didn't have to go back. C A N A D A -:) ~ Cyn

Cyn's ill health was arrested that summer. Upon her return home, it progressively declined. We sent her to family friends to PEI in October 2005. Her adventures began.

This is a dream. I am living my dream. I am in PEI to stay. I feel so much better. It has been decided Waldron will be a tutor. His stories are fun. We visited a beach today. Waldron and I built a stone man -:). I forget what it is called. I will look for it on-line. I was shown so much today! I suffered information overload, but it was fun!

The name, Father James Road, is a fun story. Heather found this old farm house several years ago. She was happy it was still there. I closed my eyes. I wondered about the people who lived there. I hope they were nice.

Animals had an affinity for Cyn. Foxes would come to her. They would rub against her legs. Squirrels would land on her shoulder. They would run back and forth across her neck. Birds would light on her hands. Cyn captured thousands of photos of her friends.

My Halloween day was complete. This evening I met another fox. If I could tell them apart, I would love to give them names. She was begging for food. I confess. I cheated. I gave her part of my bun. I could see her smile -:).

We returned to the Father James Road. The colors of the leaves were vivid. This is my favorite activity. I feel well. The smells are unique. There were no ghosts or goblins -:).

Canadian Geese are beautiful. They are colored black and white. Today we watched many geese in a cow pasture. The cattle were in the pasture too. They were black and white. They are called Holstein's. The cattle were peaceful. They would walk through the geese, but they did not chase them. We watched the geese through binoculars. The geese were safe. The owners do not allow people to hunt in their pasture.

Cyn's humor saw her through many of life's troubles. Her temper would flare, if she felt she was trifled with.

Today we walked along the shore. It was a beautiful day. My tutor spoke regarding pioneer life. He showed me a building called an "outhouse". I am most happy to live in the year 2005. An outhouse is not nice. It is a toilet situated in the great outdoors. He opened the door. I shuddered when I saw the spider. I was most unfair. I ranted and then recovered. I looked. Tutor was laughing. I will never understand men. I was slow today. I started to laugh when I opened the diary.

The "Big Tree" is my newest favorite PEI place to visit. How many do I have now? I love her. I hug her. She gives me life. Today I sat on the path for two hours and sketched her. She creaked and talked to me. She waved her limbs in the wind. It was so cold, still I felt warm inside. I do not feel death here. The "Big Tree" is about life!

I like sunrises better than sunsets. I do not like waking early. I must be satisfied with the colors of a great sunset. Basin Head is my favorite beach. There are many birds between the bridge and South Lake. Tonight my camera fell out of my pocket. It is tougher than I expected. This capture I caught on the way back. It was a wonderful -:) day!

Cynthia enjoyed turning the tables, always with good humor. I can imagine the scene in Waldron's History Room.

Dad is visiting. He misses golf. He wanted a long walk. Today we walked along the shoreline at Bothwell. Waldron told me the story of the last bear in PEI. I found this big brown bear. It is a rock formation created by erosion. The batteries started to die. The spares were in the SUV. I took as many captures as I could. I took my camera to Waldron. I teased Waldron and confused him. It was fun -:)! Waldron used the capture for photo of the day -:) on his site.

Cynthia's fascination for driftwood led to hours beach combing for the perfect "serpent".

Today I ran Rock Barra Beach. The water was very very cold. I did not wish to leave. The storm brought in wood and garbage. The garbage looked so out of place. I was not thrilled. Color me black. I looked for serpents. It was a poor day. I found seven. One was interesting. I found a Seahorse. The little fellow was so cute. I hope Brandy is not jealous. I have another horse friend -:)!

It stormed today. It was cold but I enjoyed the feeling on my face. I caught snowflakes on my tongue -:). It is good to always carry my camera. The captures I made today were so unusual. I found a tree that had eyes, a funny mouth and many arms. It was not a serpent. I was ready to watch it start to walk.

I visited the doctor today. Mom -:) decided to give me a pick-me-up. There is a viewing platform in Mt. Hope. Beside it, I found my Christmas card. I made the capture and sent it everywhere tonight! I shall enjoy this Christmas, my very first white one! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Today I ran at Basin Head. It was beautiful. It was foggy and windy. I felt a wet sandstorm all over. When I came back to the bridge, mom had my camera ready. Misty Moisty Dunes became photo of the day!

It is February 1. I saw that my January 6 capture is photo of the month. Whom do I thank for the nice comments?

Today was beautiful. I ran eight lengths at Campbell's Cove Park. The waves were splashing very high on the rocks. I was splashed. The water was very (:- cold. I used my new camera. It was the only thing the salt water did not touch! I love everything the beaches give me. The solitude is exciting. Bring on the lobsters!

Tonight was crazy. Waldron called. He did not have a photo of the day. I found dad. We drove down a road. I made 58 captures of the sunset. Waldron was late. He suggested I choose one. I did!

The entry for Dec. 28, 2006 states: Waldron called. My sunset is the photo of the year! The feeling is amazing. People smiled when I took the picture. I am smiling -:) too!

Cyn's last "Today In The Life of Eastern Kings" capture was appropriate. The excitement in her eyes that afternoon is my best memory.

I was a pain today. There were many geese and ducks in the Little Pond. I demanded to use mom's Nikon. I took the heavy lens. I filled her card and walked to the SUV. I cleaned it into the laptop and started again. Four hours of bliss! Waldron was happy. He made it a photo of the day. I loved all the comments that were made. I am happy. I feel I shall live forever.

Nine weeks later Cyn peacefully slipped away in her sleep. It is cruel for any parent to lose a child. She lives on through her photography. Cyn's wish for Waldron and this site was success. She understood beyond her years the concept and Waldron's goals. Cyn had the capacity to get her way. Today in the Life of Eastern Kings' entry into the world of facebook is an example. She worked diligently for the communities she felt were her home. Cyn was an environmentalist. She loved her world. She strove to make a difference. Thank you to the staff and supporters of the Eastern Kings Meeting Place for allowing her to participate in what for her were special moments in time. Thank you Stephen for managing her facebook group.
