Introduction . . . The McAskill River flows north into Gulf of St. Lawrence, from Lot 42. It appears on maps in 1863 and 1880. In 1831, it was known as McCaskil's River. In 1967 it was known incorrectly as Goose River, given because it was assumed the local community of Goose River must be named for this, the longest stream in the area. The name was reverted in 1970 to reflect local usage. A brief history . . . MacKinnon's Lobster Factory was located in Goose River. They employed 30 people and shipped their finished product to Charlottetown, until it was sold in 1935. The factory closed for good in 1940. Today . . .
