Introduction . . .Five Houses is about 16 miles west of Souris on Route 2 and is in Lot 42. The community is probably named for five French dwellings that had been destroyed after the 1758 deportation of the Acadians. Surveyor-General Samuel Holland notes "Ruined Village" there on his map and "Ruined Village of 5 Houses" in his map notes. In 1840 it was noted as "the ruined village of Five-houses". The Meecham 1880 Atlas indicates Bay Fortune Road school district there. There was a post office in this location in 1913.
