Quilt draw fundraiser

For the past eight years a group of Eastern Kings quilters have raised funds in support of the fight against breast cancer, and this year is no exception as tickets go on sale for this year's draw which takes place in October to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the PEI Breast Cancer Information Partnership. The group of more than 20 quilters, whose members belong to the Red Clay Quilters Guild as well as others wanting to be a part of this important cause, have raised almost $20,000 over the past eight years. The quilt will be on display at Island Fabrics, on North River Road in Charlottetown, and tickets are available there or from members of the Red Clay Quilters Guild. Seen here with the quilt is Catherine Mooney, who besides being one of the quilters is a breast cancer survivor and one of the founders of the PEI Breast Cancer.

The communities of Eastern Kings recognizes its volunteers in many ways. In 2004 a new Canada Day Recognition Awards Program was instituted honouring our Volunteers in Eastern Kings. Click here to view past recipients of this program as well as the names of individuals living in the area, who have received Provincial, National and International recognition, in the past.
