Souris businessman Harry McLean purchased the Lina May from Frank MacDonald in 1901. McLean took an interest in racing and won several races with her. He then had the Zephyr built locally, with sails imported from Boston, in an attempt defeat his rivals in Summerside, Charlottetown and Halifax.
