Introduction . . .

This school district was formerly known as St. Columba, for the Roman Catholic church situated here. It had a post office from ca. 1838 to 1913. The area appears as Fairfield on an 1852 map.

A brief history . . .

The first St. Columba church was built here in in 1806.

The second St. Columba church was built between 1822 and 1825.

The third St. Columba Church was built in 1846 and served the community until it was destroyed by fire on January 30, 1917. For the next two years, services were held at the East Point Cheese Factory.

MacDonald and MacDonald's lobster factory at St Columba burned down in 1883. Building and contents, insured for $4,000, were lost.

A bell was consecrated in the fall of 1883 for the use of the church and congregation.

The fourth St. Columba church, a large brick structure was opened in 1919

The present day St. Columba Church was dedicated in 1966.
