Introduction . . .

Bayfield
This area was named for Admiral Henry Wolsley Bayfield 1795-1885, who surveyed the coast of P.E.I. for the Admiralty between 1842 and 1845. He lived in Charlottetown until his death. The Bull Creek post office was situated here from 1873 to 1881. From 1881 until 1892, it was served by Priest Pond and had its own post office as Bayfield from 1892 until 1914.

A brief history . . .

The first settlers to the area included MacAulay's, MacDonald's, MacEachern's and MacPhee's.

On May 21, 1838, Thomas Curtis master of the schooner Sarah stated that while riding anchor in three fathoms of water off Bull Creek, north side of P.E.I. taking in a cargo of grain and potatoes - seas began to rise, the cable broke and the vessel went ashore. The defendant, anxious to secure vessel and cargo, or as much of them as possible, appeared before Magistrate Alexander Leslie to enter his protest against sea and weather.

In 1888 a Mr. A. Gay operated a store and William Leslie operated a mill in the community.
